AOL Attempts Complete Coverage of SXSW Bands
America Online is attempting something never done before – interview all 2,000 bands performing at South by Southwest (SXSW).
In order to accomplish this extremely ambitious goal, they are recruiting…well, you. Do you have an interest in music? According to AOL’s music website Spinner.com, that may be all you need.
From their announcement:
If you are passionate about music, attend shows and talk to bands (or just want to), this is an excellent opportunity to get your byline in front of millions of fellow music fans around the world.
If you’re selected, we’ll send you the name of a band. You’ll research them, interview them and write up the interview in a simple Q&A format, as well as compose a brief biography. If we run your piece, you’ll pocket $50.
While the pay is relatively low for freelance, AOL is hoping the established music community on Spinner will be excited to participate. It provides music fanatics a chance to publish to their peers. It will be interesting to see if Spinner can pull it off.
Being a music fanatic with an abundance of free time on my hand, I decided to sign up for an assignment. If chosen, I’ll write a follow-up piece about the experience. If any of you plan to try, let me know in the comments as I’d love to hear about your experience.
