Associated Press Releases Social Media Guidelines
The Associated Press released a list of social media guidelines. Most of these are fairly straightforward. Some are new (the change of Web site to website). Others are a bit confusing in their placement.
The latest update includes entries for retweet, hashtag, search engine optimization (SEO is fine on subsequent uses), and microsite. AP continues to use the “e-“ format for electronic products (e-book and e-reader).
While the new update provides some key information, it is a bit worrisome that AP includes texting and instant messaging terms in category they really do not belong. These technology uses are not social media, and this could confuse journalists who are unfamiliar with the terminology. Those flipping through the print version of the Stylebook may have difficulties finding this information.
Still, it is entertaining to see that ROFL finally has an AP entry. The complete social media guidelines are below. List your thoughts in the comments.
